For the most comfortable walk, we recommend arriving at opening time or 2-3 hours before closing. If you plan to take a safari tour or visit specialized pavilions (such as the aquarium or nocturnal house), it is better to plan a half-day visit. To see most of the enclosures and enjoy a leisurely walk along the shady alleys, we recommend setting aside at least 3–5 hours. Although the name has been changed, even now the park is popularly known as Cubbon Park. Later in the year 1927, the name Cubbon Park was again changed to Sri Chamarajendra Park. Initially spread over an area of 100 acres, the park was later expanded to around 300 acres of land. However, later the park was renamed as Cubbon Park in the memory of Sir Mark Cubbon who was then the longest serving commissioner. After his name, the Sri Chamarajendra Park park was initially named as Meade’s Park. Other popular tree from the ornamental species that can be seen in the park is Delonix/ Gulmohar Tree.
The State Archeological Museum, one of the oldest in India, built in 1876 by Colonel Sankey, located within the park, is similar in design to the Attara Kacheri in its architectural style and hue. Attara Kacheri, built in 1864 A.D during British rule, is a stone structure in an intense red hue, a two storied building with Corinthian columns in Gothic Style of architecture and is located at the entrance to the park. Memorials in the form of marble statues in honour of Queen Victoria (installed in 1906), King Edward VII (installed in 1919), Major General Sir Mark Cubbon, Sri Chamarajendra Wodeyar (installed in 1927) and Sir K. Sheshadri Iyer (installed (in 1913) are seen located in front of the historical buildings within the park.
